There’s Something About Chupa Chups

For Wednesday, August 27, 2008 weather forecast is expecting on Riccione a sweet day.
This thanks to Chupa Chups, the legendary lollipop, that in that date at the Aquafan will celebrate its first 50 years.
In fact if Chupa Chups leaves perhaps cold barometers, thermometers, pluviometers and other various sensors, things change with colonels.

Impossible to resist to the most sweet, mythical, and loved pellet of the world…
At the Aquafan the special guest Jorge Lorenzo, the Spanish Yamaha pilot, will certainly not be able to resist to it.
Precisely in Spain in 1958, the “son of art” Enric Bernat (his uncle was the first confectioner of Spain and his father founded the biscuit factory “La gloria”) tried the venture Chups.

If time is passing for men (Enric Bernat died in 2003) and for businesses (in 2006 Chupa Chups was taken over by the Italian-Dutch multinational Perfetti Van Melle), it seems not to pass for the “caramelo con palo“.
This because Chupa Chups, thought for children and loved also by adults, has become a phenomenon, a true cult object.
When Bernat entrusted the logo to Salvador Dalì he could not imagine that the exhibitors and tin cans would have be sold like hot cakes among collectors.

The advertising campaigns are always creative, the fashion accessories trendy.
The ironic felt puppet Chuck, last promotional trick, is already a star.
The sweet pellet has been in the mouth of really stellar personalities (Madonna, Ronaldo, Zidane, James Brown, Robert Altman) and in 1995 came to the stars, consumed by the astronauts of Mir station.

On the ground instead it is consumed every day in all continents.
Lately Chupa Chups is much appreciated by ex-smokers and there are many gourmands who proclaim themselves dependent on it.
The name Chupa Chups comes from the Spanish verb “chupar”, that means suck.
The sugared pellet at the top of a stick (of wood first and of plastic then) was only thought in order to prevent children from dirting their hands and has instead revolutionized the (confectionery) world.
